Cycling meets winter sports: Nordic Weekend and Chasing Cancellara co-operate in Andermatt
Andermatt becomes the scene of the sports scene: the Swiss-Ski Nordic Weekend takes place for the 15th time in Andermatt and Realp from 23 to 25 August. For the sixth time, Andermatt will be the destination for the Chasing Cancellara cycling event. For the first time, the finish line will be shared on the Piazza Gottardo.
The traditional meeting of the Nordic family of Swiss-Ski in the canton of Uri is the largest off-snow event of the cross-country skiing and biathlon scene in Switzerland. Over three consecutive days, athletes from both sports will compete against each other in roller ski races in skating and classic as well as a mountain run from Göschenen to Andermatt. The ski industry will also be presenting its latest products in Andermatt. The Swiss-Ski Summer Road Show also offers children and young people the opportunity to get in touch with Nordic sports in a fun way.
Joint finish in Andermatt Reuss
In recent years, Andermatt has established itself as a venue for major events in the cycling scene, such as the Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet and the Tour de Suisse. On Saturday 24 August, the sixth edition of the amateur race Chasing Cancellara will take place in Andermatt. On the 220-kilometre route from Zurich to Andermatt, cycling enthusiasts and semi-professionals will compete with two-time Olympic champion Fabian Cancellara. The finish line is on the Piazza Gottardo in Andermatt Reuss.
For the first time, the mountain runners will also be using the joint finish arena. Spectators can therefore look forward to a great spectacle. The planned arrival at the finish line - for both parties - is scheduled for Saturday midday, 24 August.
Children and young people will also have the opportunity to take part in sporting activities at the Swiss-Ski Summer Road Show, meet some Swiss-Ski stars and collect autographs. A varied and multi-sport programme will be on offer for the public - young and old - in Andermatt between 1.45 and 5 pm.
